Key role player Jake Marisnick is part of the bevy of Chicago Cubs trade deadline deals.
Marisnick on Friday was traded to the San Diego Padres for minor-league right-hander Anderson Espinoza.
The outfielder was valuable in his platoon role for the Cubs, thriving against left-handed pitchers. He hit .295 and had a .348 on-base percentage and .872 OPS versus lefties this season, which included 21 starts.
Marisnick joined the Cubs in the offseason on a one-year, $1.5 million contract with a $4 million mutual option for 2022.
Espinoza, 23, made 12 starts for high-A Fort Wayne this year, recording a 5.97 ERA and 1.465 WHIP. The Venezuelan native has struck out 29.4% of batters but struggles with walks at times (10.3 BB%).
