New Lenox trustees Monday welcomed their newest board member, approving the appointment of Tara Kenny, 36, to fill a two-year term on the board.

Kenny replaces Jasen Howard, who was elected to a second term in April but resigned after his wife took a promotion that required a move out of state.

Kenny, who is the board’s youngest member, moved to the village five years ago. She is president of her homeowner’s association and has been involved with the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association, which is located in her neighborhood. Last year, Kenny worked with the village to have a stop sign installed near a park in her subdivision.

“I’m a very community oriented person and I love this community,” she said.

Though she’s only been in New Lenox five years, Kenny said she had been looking for a way to serve.

“I’m really excited that the mayor and the rest of the board entrusted me with this position,” she said, saying she’s ready to “dive in” to help with whatever is needed.

Kenny and her husband, Ryan, live in Heather Glen subdivision with their daughters Audrianna, 8 1/2, and Quinn, age 6 1/2. Her husband is a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps.
