Northwestern Medicine, which merged with Palos Health earlier this year, is continuing its expansion into the south suburbs with a new medical office building in Mokena.

The three-story, 48,000-square-foot facility at the corner of U.S. 30 and South Owens Road features primary and specialty care services, as well as an Immediate Care Center. Physicians began seeing patients in the new building in mid-June and the Immediate Care Center opened Monday.

Construction began last year under the auspices of Palos Health. Silver Cross Hospital is building its own medical facility across the street.

“Opening the new Mokena location is a milestone in our expansion into the southwest suburbs,” said Howard Chrisman, senior vice president of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare.

Specialty services include gynecology with X-ray, CT, and a point-of-care laboratory. Additional diagnostic imaging services are scheduled to open later this year and plans include adding orthopedics and obstetrics.

Palos Health officially became part of Northwestern Medicine on Jan. 1. Palos Medical Group, which includes more than 60 physicians, 32 providers and 100 staff members, will officially join Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group on Sept. 1.

Posen funeral home lauded by association

Adduci-Zimny Funeral Home, of Posen, was recently recognized by the Illinois Funeral Directors Association as the only south suburban recipient of an Illinois Award of Funeral Service Distinction.

“I would like to congratulate the 2021 Illinois Award of Funeral Service Distinction recipients,” IFDA President Matt Kendall said in a release. “This award is a small token of the pride and devotion with which you serve your families and communities.”

This is the fourth year that the association has established the awards program as a way to recognize the exemplary and enduring contributions that its members make to the communities they serve, as well as to the funeral profession. Nine funeral homes received this award for their efforts during 2020-2021.

Adduci-Zimny Funeral Home completed stringent funeral service criteria related to community outreach, family outreach, and professional development, the IFDA said.

IFDA represents approximately 500 funeral homes and more than 1,300 individual licensed Illinois Funeral Directors and Embalmers who adhere to the IFDA Constitution and Code of Professional Conduct in addition to the Funeral Directors and Embalmers Licensing Code.

Butcher shop, Rotary Club partner with BEDS Plus

Jack & Pat’s Old Fashioned Butcher Shop in Chicago Ridge and the Rotary Club of Moraine Valley are partnering to help feed BEDS Plus clients through a Match a Meal program.

Customers can add a donation of $1 or more at the Chicago Ridge grocer and the Rotary Club will match up to $1,000 in donations.

The Match a Meal program launched last March at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly garnered the support of restaurants including Palmer Place Restaurant and Biergarten in downtown La Grange and businesses such as Philip Wagler American Family Insurance. The program’s first retail business to participate was Tischler Finer Foods in Brookfield, which partnered with the Brookfield Elks Club.

BEDS sends out meals to its sheltered clients every day. The agency makes and delivers home cooked meals six days a week to its clients. Community partners help to fill in the gaps with hot meals from local restaurants and groceries from Jack & Pat’s.

BEDS Plus works to reduce and end homelessness throughout southwest suburban Cook County.
