Six more students in Naperville School District 203 and Indian Prairie School District 204 have been named National Merit Scholarship winners.

The recent high school graduates will receive between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study from the colleges and universities they plan to attend, a National Merit Scholarship Corp. announcement said.

The six are among more than 1,000 students nationally to have earned the recognition. The local winners are:

Thomas R. Maxon, Aurora, computer science, Metea Valley High School, University of Maryland;

Andrea Brewe, Naperville, undecided, Naperville Central High School, University of Minnesota;

Steven Desch, Naperville, electrical engineering, Naperville Central High School, Arizona State University;

Rachel Druce-Hoffman, Naperville, computer science, Neuqua Valley High School, Iowa State University;

Eron P. Ristich, Naperville, computer science, Naperville North High School, Arizona State University;

Wyatt J. Woker, Naperville, computer science, Naperville North High School, Purdue University.

Naperville North and Central students are part of District 203 and Neuqua Valley and Metea Valley students are part of District 204.

This the fourth and final round of scholarships to be announced this year. The local students were selected from a pool of 7,500 applicants who made it to the finalist stage.

In April, three local students received scholarships from corporations; in May, 11 received scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corp.; and in June, 19 students received scholarships from the colleges and universities they plan to attend.

To become a finalist, each student had to complete a extensive scholarship application that included a written essay, detailed list of leadership positions and contributions in school and community activities, proof of an outstanding academic record, and endorsements/recommendations from high school officials.
