Expect this next: I don’t understand all the excitement over college athletes being compensated for their likenesses; it’s actually limited to the biggest and most attractive individuals. Real equality in college sports will only be achieved when teams refuse to take the field until every player is paid and panic sets in at the highest level of corporate America.
In over his head: Please explain why anyone with common sense would bring a retired police lieutenant from Dallas, Texas, to an uncontrollable city like Chicago. Superintendent Brown doesn’t know State Street from Canal Street. Why didn’t Mayor Lightfoot pick a Chicago superintendent and not a stranger?
Too many child victims: Children are born to be nurtured and love, not shot and killed. They’re not safe anywhere.
LSD a neutral name: Lake Shore Drive should be left the way it is. It has nothing to do with race, color, religion or history. It’s a neutral name and everybody can associate with it.
Shouldn’t represent U.S.: How disheartening to read about Gwendolyn Berry turning her back on the American flag. She is representing the United States in the Olympics. A person who can’t show respect at that time, should not be participating and representing our nation. What a shame that a more proud U.S. athlete was denied the opportunity to participate in her place at the trials.
Only half the story: President Biden is quick to take credit for the latest jobs numbers but makes no mention of thousands of Help Wanted signs, the skyrocketing cost of living or his extension of sweetened unemployment benefits through September.
Athlete decision wrong: I just saw on the news that they’re not going to allow a woman sprinter in the Olympics because she tested positive for marijuana. Gee, how many states have it legalized that you can smoke marijuana. Yet they’ll allow a man that had a sex change compete in the Olympics. If it’s good for one, it should be good for the other.
Thank goodness it’s fiction: I watched the movie “Independence Day.” In the end, a successful counteroffensive is launched and the alien crafts are downed. But millions around the world were killed over the course of a few days and countless more left injured and homeless because multiple cities were incinerated. I then had a thought. If this happened nowadays, the remaining do-gooders, activists and politicians of the world would likely be more preoccupied with offering amnesty to any surviving aliens than rebuilding society.
