Infrastructure vs. environment: The infrastructure bill is going to go through so we’re going to build roads on polluted and contaminated soil. We’re going to build bridges over polluted and contaminated waters. Our fish are dying, their stocks are decreasing slowly but surely. The animals are disappearing because of the contaminants but politicians aren’t interested in that. They want to build roads and bridges because that’s where the jobs for the unions go. Please clean up the earth, clean up the waters.

Fireworks vs. environment: We are supposed to be working on climate change, yet how many cities, counties, states have fireworks scheduled for the Fourth of July? The air after a fireworks show is unbreathable. A laser show is not an option, especially in the Chicago area with our proximity to airports. There is so much footage of past fireworks shows, why not just put up a big screen and show that? Would help the environment although will still probably scare our pets and wildlife.

No representation: As Americans have seen, our Congress can agree on very little. They do not even want to listen to the American people who put them in office to represent us. The late comedian Milton Berle said you can lead a man to Congress, but you can’t make him think. Americans can only hope that Congress will get its act together and do the job they were elected to do.

What is fair: Where are the loud feminists and women’s rights advocates, let alone the judiciary, when transgender, biological males are allowed to compete against biological women? Created equal has to do human rights, not biological characteristics. The Olympics were once about fairness in competition. That no longer appears to be the case.

No all good or all bad: I did not agree with everything President Obama said or did. Just because a president is Democrat or Republican doesn’t mean everything they say or do is OK with me. Obama had to use his executive powers in order to get anything done. This didn’t sit well with me. However, the word “no” was all you could hear from Mitch McConnell and all the Republicans in reference to policies proposed by Obama.

COVID costs: In the totality of the last 15 months, makeshift hospital sites that were set but not used are just a blip in the costs of COVID-19. How many lives, jobs and trillions of dollars could we have potentially saved by wearing completely harmless and inexpensive face coverings?
