Late yesterday it was revealed that Donald Trump’s company and his longtime finance chief were indicted on charges stemming from a New York investigation into the former president’s business dealings, according to two sources who spoke with the Associated Press. The charges remained sealed as of last night, but were expected to involve alleged tax violations.

And, forecasters are anticipating hazardous lake conditions the first part of the Fourth of July holiday weekend. High winds are expected to create dangerous swimming conditions in Lake Michigan this afternoon and tomorrow night as waves are predicted to reach as high as 8 feet with life-threatening rip currents, according to the National Weather Service. As a fire at a building housing tons of lithium batteries continued to burn Wednesday in Morris — forcing the evacuation of about 3,000 people from their homes — Mayor Chris Brown said the city never received a business license request from the company occupying the structure.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot says criticism of her temperament is ‘about 99%’ because she’s a Black woman

Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Tuesday night that “about 99%” of the criticism she receives over her temperament is due to the fact she’s a Black woman.

The mayor made the comment during an interview on WTTW-Ch. 11 after being asked about questions people have raised over temperament and how she reacts to criticism. The mayor has been known to be tough on staff and confrontational with critics, contributing to significant staff turnover.

Ida B. Wells monument is unveiled in Chicago and a neighborhood turns out, admiring, wondering, embracing it as their own

The Light of Truth Ida B. Wells National Monument was unveiled in Bronzeville on Wednesday, curling skyward above the modest trees of its surrounding park. The 30-foot-tall sculpture sits on the site of the Ida B. Wells Homes, which for decades was the only serious memorialization of Wells.

As the monument was built over the past several weeks, neighbors embraced it quickly. Some already dubbed it “the Sears Tower of Bronzeville.”

Jonathan Toews says he plans to return to the Chicago Blackhawks and reveals the illness that kept him out last season: ‘My body just fell apart’

Jonathan Toews, who missed the entire 2020-21 season for the Chicago Blackhawks, revealed he has “chronic immune response syndrome”

in a video tweeted Wednesday morning. Toews also told the Athletic that he’s “probably a COVID long-hauler” dating to February 2020, but he didn’t say definitively whether he received a positive test at the time.

In Wednesday’s two-minute video, Toews walks through the doors of Fifth Third Arena, the Hawks’ practice facility. The star center and captain said before last season that a then-unspecified illness left him feeling “lethargic.” He later was placed on long-term injured reserve and missed the entire season.
