East Dundee soon will be showing off its new logo on its Route 25 water tower.

Trustees recently signed off on the “look” for the tower, which officials hope to have repainted later this year. The project, expected to cost about $625,000, includes painting the interior and exterior of the water tower.

“It’s a pretty significant project,” Village President Jeff Lynam said.

The water tower will feature the village’s new logo, which was designed pro-bono for the village by Zeller Marketing in East Dundee, Village Administrator Jennifer Johnsen said. The dome of the water tower will be painted white with black lettering for the village’s logo and the stem will be painted black, trustees agreed at the June 21 board meeting.

“We’re just excited about using it; it’s a good branding opportunity,” Johnsen said of using the logo on the water tower.

Though refreshing the look of the water tower will be the most noticeable part of the project, Johnsen said painting the tower also serves as a vital maintenance function for the structure. The paint itself, for example, is specially formulated for such projects and is designed to help preserve the structure.

Though the water tower will be drained to allow for the interior painting, Johnsen said it would not affect water supply for the village, noting the the village has two other water tanks to supply residents needs.

The cost is expected to be about $625,000 and will be paid for with money in the village’s water fund, she said. Bids will sought in the near future now that design concept has been approved she said.

The tower was last painted in 1990, Johnsen said.
