Public Works crews in Burr Ridge are wrapping up cleaning efforts from the June 20 tornado that ripped through parts of the town and pockets of Darien.
The cleanup has been ongoing since Sunday’s storm and the village is now asking for immediate information regarding the extent of damage as part of a request to Gov. J.B. Pritzker for disaster relief assistance.
Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso said the severe damage to trees and some roofs was concentrated in an eight-block square area in the village, from about 79th to 87th streets, and from just west of Madison Street to County Line Road.
Any Burr Ridge property owners with damage to their home or business should send an email to [email protected] by 3 p.m. Thursday, July 1, regardless of insurance and deductible.
“That’s a hard and fast deadline because Friday is the deadline the state has imposed for communities such as ours,” said Evan Walter, Burr Ridge Village Administrator.
The information will help aggregate data regarding how much actual damage occurred, and Burr Ridge is among five DuPage County municipalities that are cumulatively cataloging the aftermath of the tornado.
“There are certain thresholds you have to cross to be established as an emergency declaration at the state level,” said Walter.
As far as the type of damage residents and businesses can report, anything related to the storm counts — a fallen tree on a home, water damage, home debris, structural damage and more.

Beyond Thursday’s deadline, Walter said residents with any other needs should call the village to get it sorted.
“Like if you have trees that you need to have chipped up, just put them at the curb and give the village a call and we’ll get around to you at our earliest convenience and that will continue on an as-needed basis,” he said.
To report damage caused by the recent tornado, include your name, property address, phone number, description of damage and pictures in the email.
