The Libertyville Village Board approved a resolution Tuesday that loosens restrictions on the three parking spaces in front of Village Hall, allowing the spots to be used while the office is closed.
Officials said it’s part of an effort to promote businesses returning from the coronavirus pandemic.
On weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the three spots, which are on West Cook Road, are reserved for 15-minute intervals for those visiting Village Hall. The change will open those spots for use on weekdays from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., and on weekends.

Trustee Scott Adams called it common sense to open the spots, as it will provide more parking for businesses at busy times during the weekend.
“It just totally makes sense,” he said.
Trustee Peter Garrity was the lone voice of concern, worried about staff and trustees not having access to convenient parking on nights when there are meetings. Despite the concern, Garrity voted in favor of the resolution.
Mayor Donna Johnson said the proposal originally included opening four other spots in the parking lot connected to Village Hall. But she said they were taken out of the plan to provide staff with parking.
Village Administrator Kelly Amidei said there is an increasing need for parking in the community, and as a result, enforcement of parking may need to increase. She said motorists should keep an eye out for parking restrictions across town. Though she said the increased use was a good problem to have.
“It is so nice to see the (parking) lot filling up again,” Amidei said.
