Two pools opened Saturday in Libertyville and will be able to host almost 600 patrons between both of them, officials say.
After being closed last year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the gates opened Saturday at Adler Park Pool, and its smaller companion, Riverside Park Pool, for the first time since 2019. Officials expect the pool season to run full-time through the first week of August, then with a reduced schedule through September.
Some safety protocols are also being included at the pool this season due to ongoing health concerns. Officials announced that the pools will have daily time slots lasting between two and three hours. Once a guest’s time has ended, they will be asked to leave the pool.
Pool chairs are also spaced, and masks must be worn when entering the facility and in the locker room, but not while swimming. There will also be two cleanings throughout each day, officials said.
The concession stand at Adler will be open daily and will sell drinks, candy, chips and ice cream, officials said. The slides and drop slide will be open there as well.
This year’s season will have the pools open seven days a week, with hours varying. The regular season ends Aug. 8, when Riverside will close and Adler will shift to weekends-only through the first week of September, according to a news release from the Libertyville Recreation Department.
Adler has a capacity of 500 guests and Riverside has a capacity of 96, according to the Recreation Department website. Officials could not be reached for comment on the opening weekend turnout.
