Expansion of the Central Tri-State Tollway will mean more pile driving and lane changes this summer.

In Burr Ridge and Indian Head Park, the new noise wall along Interstate 294 between Joliet and Plainfield roads currently is being installed. This includes the sound-muffling wall along the “on” ramp to southbound I-294, near the Chestnut Green subdivision at Wolf Road and Flagg Creek Drive, Indian Head Park village officials said.

In order to do the construction when traffic volumes are low, some of the pile driving to support the structures will take place during the night, Indian Head Park Village President Tom Hinshaw advised the community Wednesday.

Preparation for replacing the bridge over Plainfield Road is also scheduled to start this summer. While some lanes on the Plainfield Road bridge may be closed for construction, the bridge will remain open, Hinshaw said.

Workers are relocating the Flagg Creek Water Reclamation District sewer lines, too, which will require some closures of lanes on I-294 between the Hinsdale Oasis and the Stevenson Expressway during off-peak hours.
