The village of Oak Park and Walgreens will host a second-dose COVID-19 vaccine clinic this Saturday, allowing those who received their first dose on May 22 to complete their vaccination against the virus.

Those who received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine last month are scheduled to receive their second Pfizer dose between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday at Oak Park and River Forest High School, 201 Scoville Ave.

Specific appointments are not required, but individuals should bring their vaccine cards to be updated with the second-dose information. Access to the clinic is available through door 12 in the alley between the high school’s field house and parking garage.

Anyone who is unable to attend the second-dose clinic is encouraged to visit a local pharmacy or contact their healthcare provider to receive a second shot before June 27.

Health officials recommend getting a second shot as close to the recommended three-week interval as possible; however, a second shot may be given up to 42 days after the first dose, if necessary.

Individuals who receive the Pfizer vaccine are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose, health officials said.

To date, the Oak Park Department of Public Health has issued more than 29,130 first doses of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine, a total which includes nearly 27,200 residents who are fully vaccinated. So far, the health department has directly administered about 12,300 doses of vaccines and allocated nearly 15,000 doses to local hospitals and health care vaccination partners.

Within the past week, one Oak Park resident, who was 91 years old, has died as a result of COVID-19, officials said. Between June 2 and June 9, just two confirmed cases of the virus have been reported in Oak Park. The new cases involve residents in their 30s, officials said.

According to state data, 3,201 Oak Park residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since the first case was reported in the village on March 18, 2020.
