Chicago is expected to see a sunny Memorial Day weekend after showers Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
Scattered showers are likely to move northeast Friday, when Chicago’s lakefront beaches will reopen for the first time since September 2019. Temperatures are forecast to be in the low 50s.
Friday will see onshore winds bringing low temperatures near the lake. The rain is expected to end Friday evening, said meteorologist Kevin Donofrio of the National Weather Service. The water temperature of the lake will be in the 50s, he added.
“(On Friday) it’s going to be windy. It’s going to be rainy,” he said. “But the weekend looks really nice.”
He said temperatures are expected to remain on the cooler side on Saturday, with temperatures near the lake in the 50s and near 60 inland. Clear and sunny skies are forecast.

Temperatures are expected to rise Sunday, approaching 60 near the lake and 70 inland, according to Donofrio. Areas near the lake are expected to see similar temperatures Monday, but suburban and inland temperatures are expected to rise to the mid-70s, he added, making way for a warm and partly sunny Memorial Day.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a slight chance of showers after 1 p.m. Monday.
