A locally-owned bakery and a restaurant/cafe featuring unique menu options are opening just a few blocks from each other as the Naperville business scene continues to burgeon.

Here are a few details about both as well as information on two other new businesses:

Fiene’s Bakery

Meghan Fiene said she hopes to have Fiene’s Bakery at 1603 N. Aurora Road open in a few weeks.

She described it as a full-scale, from-scratch bakery in which customers can walk in to pick up baked goods or place orders in advance.

“We’ll do everything from doughnuts to wedding cakes and everything in be

tween,” Fiene said.

Fiene's Bakery on North Aurora Road will sell made-from-scratch baked goods, including doughnuts, cakes, cookies and pastries, its owner said.

Among the items she’ll be selling are cookies, coffee cakes, pastries, strawberry oak bars and cherry crumb bars. She’ll also be selling Two Brothers coffee, she said.

This is Fiene’s first business after spending about a decade in the culinary/pastry industry. A Naperville native, she grew up a few minutes from her bakery location, attended Naperville North High School and is a former club swimmer, she said.

“As a baker, (the idea of opening a shop is) always in the back of your mind. Ultimately, you decide to do it and we did it,” Fiene said.

Her business will be open at least six days a week, she said.

Sugar Milk Cafe

Saul Cabrera says he’s about a month away from opening Sugar Milk Cafe, a breakfast/lunch restaurant at 1250 W. Ogden Ave., pending the completion of the paperwork needed to finalize operations.

Some menu items will be elaborate and unique, and will include such things as crepes, pancakes, French toast, chilaquiles, paninis and churros, he said. On the beverage side will be coffees, cappuccinos, lattes, milkshakes, smoothies, teas and juices.

A wall devoted to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is among the features that Saul Cabrera hopes will give a unique vibe to his new Sugar Milk Cafe on Ogden Avenue in Naperville.

Among his specialty items is the “Ferrero Frappe,” which includes mini-doughnuts and Ferrero Rocher chocolates.

His interior will be unique as well, Cabrera said. One photo on social media showcased a Frida Kahlo wall in the dining room.

“There’s nothing like this here. We’re trying to bring something fresh to town,” he said.

“It’s an area that’s growing, close to downtown. And I picked this spot because of the ample parking,” Cabrera said.

Sugar Milk Cafe will be open seven days a week.

Teriyaki Madness

Franchise operators Mike and Kathy Hendershott and Bill Christy said they will be opening five new Teriyaki Madness restaurants in the Chicago suburbs, and Naperville is on the list for possible locations.

While no final decision has been made, the goal would be to have them start opening in late summer/early fall, they said.

Teriyaki Madness, a franchise restaurant considering a location in Naperville, has restaurants all over the country, including this one in Orlando, Florida.

“Good family neighborhood, right community for this franchise. It’s just a great market, right?” Mike Hendershott said of the Naperville market.

Other possible locations are South Elgin, Algonquin and Geneva, a news release said.

Denver-based Teriyaki Madness is a fast-casual Asian restaurant that features Seattle-style teriyaki. Among the menu items are teriyaki bowls with chicken, steak, salmon, tofu or yakisoba noodles; rice; vegetables; eggrolls; pot stickers; crab rangoon; and edamame.

“Everything is fresh to order. It is food that tastes good and is also healthy,” Hendershott said.

Teriyaki Madness was founded in 2003 and currently has franchises in nearly 150 locations in the U.S. Illinois restaurants are open in Chicago, Lombard, Rolling Meadows, Vernon Hills and Gurnee.

Shopko Optical

Eyecare/eyewear chain Shopko Optical plans to open its eighth Illinois store at 2936 Showplace Drive in July, a news release announced.

“We are so excited to be a part of the Naperville community,” Shopko Optical CEO Russ Steinhorst said in the release. “The new center will allow us to continue providing the well-renowned, patient-centric eye care that Shopko Optical is known for.”

The Naperville store will employ five to seven people once open.
