The American Legion Auxiliary Unit from Post 1941 in La Grange will hold a drive-through Poppy Day, Saturday, May 29.
For a donation to benefit active duty military personnel and veterans, people will receive a red cloth poppy in the post parking lot, at 900 S. La Grange Road, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 29. Coloring pages will be handed out to children.

The red poppy came to symbolize the blood shed on World War I battlefields, after Lt. Colonel John McCrae described them in his poem, In Flanders Fields.”
In September 1920, the poppy became the official flower of The American Legion to memorialize the soldiers who fought and died during the war.
The American Legion Auxiliary asks people to wear a poppy to honor the fallen and support the living who served in our country’s Armed Forces.
