In a recent email sent to the Hinsdale District 86 community, the district announced openings for any community member 12 or older to receive the two-shot Pfizer vaccine on Thursday and May 26.

The vaccination event follows the May 12 announcement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that authorized the Pfizer vaccine for 12- through- 15- year-olds.

A few weeks ago the district sent out an email to gauge the number of students interested in getting vaccinated. According to district officials, they were able to secure 6,000 doses of the two-shot Pfizer vaccine through their ongoing partnership with Jewel Osco for District 86 students and students from Community High School District 99. Other community members 12 years and older who are interested can now make appointments until slots are filled.

The first shot of the vaccine will be given on Thursday at Hinsdale Central (5500 South Grant Street in Hinsdale) or May 26 at Downers Grove South (1436 Norfolk St in Downers Grove). Second shots will be given June 10 at Central and June 16 at Downers South. Vaccines on both days will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. free of charge.

According to the email from district officials, anyone who receives the first shot of the vaccine will automatically be scheduled for their second one, which will take place on the same day, at the same time and in the same location 21 days later.

Students should only be signed up for the first dose if they are available to receive the second shot exactly three weeks later.

Appointments are also open for freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors from several neighboring districts in DuPage County as well as eligible students from District 86’s feeder schools and the children of employees from District 86 district and feeder districts who are 12 or older.
