Lyons Township High School is planning to start next school year Aug. 19 with full days of in-person instruction for almost all students.
School will be from 7:45 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. five days a week, LTHS Principal Brian Waterman said.
“In person learning is the expectation,” Waterman said. “Remote instruction (will be) reserved for students with documented needs,” those who need to stay out of the classroom to stay healthy, he said.
For the past school year, remote instruction was structured so students learning from home had the same lessons as those in the classroom, and students could switch from at home to a hybrid model or in person learning during the year.
As of Tuesday, 60.5% of LTHS students are attending classes in person from two to four days a week, LTHS Community Relations Coordinator Jennifer Biaolobok said.

Next year, “remote learning will look significantly different than it has this year,” without the flexibility to change learning models at will, Waterman said.
Area school district superintendents still have to find out what the expectations for remote learning will be, he said.
During the next month or so, the staff also will review the school’s coronavirus mitigation efforts to ensure they continue to meet the latest state guidelines and determine how lunch will be arranged next year, Waterman said.
Per the amended 2021-2022 school calendar the LTHS School Board approved Monday, incoming freshman are scheduled to come to the South Campus in Western Springs Monday, Aug. 16 for orientation, called Frosh Experience Day.
Teachers and staff will start with an institute day and a workday Aug. 17-18.
All students are scheduled to start classes Thursday, Aug. 19 and end the school year on May 27.
First semester will end Dec. 22. School will be closed for winter break from Dec. 23 to Jan. 4. Students will return Thursday, Jan. 6 to start second semester.
Spring break will be the week from March 28 to April 1.
Senior graduation for the Class of 2022 will be Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the field house on the North Campus.
