Residents of Harvester Place Memory Care in Burr Ridge had a baseball-themed day playing T-ball and enjoying a performance by Wayne Messmer.

Messmer, a radio broadcaster, public speaker and singer known for singing the national anthem at Chicago Cubs, Wolves and Blackhawk games, visited the residents of the assisted living residence Tuesday morning.

He sang, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and a variety of classics from the 1950s and Big Band era, said Theresa Kenaga, Harvester Place’s community relations director and a Cubs fan.

The staff brought Cubs and White Sox attire for residents to wear when they welcomed Messmer and played T-ball, with large plastic bats and balls.

Between 25 and 30 residents joined the fun, Kenaga said.
