Naperville Park District summer camp registration now open

Registration has started for Naperville summer camps, a list of which is now available in the Naperville Park District Summer Camps Guide posted online at www.napervilleparks.org/programguides.

Programs are open to children from preschool through high school, and full-day and half-day options are available, a park district news release said. Some camps focus on special interests, including arts, athletics, early childhood, golf, nature, science and technology.

Traditional day camps with outdoor and arts-and-crafts activities are available on a full-time basis through Camp Seager and Camp Frontier for ages 6 to 14, the release said. Week-by-week registration is available.

Half-day camps for students in grades 1-5 who are attending Naperville District 203 summer school classes in the morning include Adventure Camp, Camp Summer Fun and Summer School Camp, the release said.

Sports camps for a range of ages include baseball, fencing, basketball, gymnastics, cheerleading, flag football, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee and tennis. Junior golfers can practice putting, chipping and a full swing at camps at Springbrook Golf Course.

Nature camps at Knoch Knolls Nature Center include fishing, building forts and outdoor adventures. In arts camps, kids can learn to sew or practice their acting skills. Science and technology camps offer such things as website development, movie making, animation, gaming, robotics and engineering with Legos, the release said.

For the youngest campers, there are camps that meet for a shorter, age-appropriate length of time each day. Camp Toadstools and Pollywogs is for the youngest campers and provides nature-based activities and outdoor adventures.

Students can write library book reports for volunteer credit

The Naperville Public Library is offering a virtual volunteering option for students in 6th through 12th grades who want to write book reviews.

Participants will receive credit for 30 minutes of volunteer work for each book review submitted, a news release said. A maximum of 10 hours can be earned by writing reviews for books students are currently reading or have previously read.

Books can be reviewed from any format — print, e-book, audiobook, graphic novel — and they don’t have to be part of the library collection, the release said. The teen librarians will use the reviews to design teen-recommended displays at each of the three library branches.

Registration or library cards are not required, but participants must have a Better Impact account to receive credit.
