The first clinic, held March 10, gave the first of two doses of the vaccine to about 560 people, with the follow-up one administering 528. Both clinics were held at HMS and sponsored by Jewel-Osco. Officials with the district said about 65 of those vaccinated were staff members, part-time employees, substitute teachers, lunchroom workers, school bus drivers and crossing guards.
Those vaccinated included residents in the state public health department’s phase 1b eligibility category. The idea for the clinic came when a SD70 parent, who worked for Jewel-Osco, approached Superintendent Matt Barbini with the idea, officials said. The district decided to hold it at HMS on Wednesday since students work remotely that day and the school can be deep-cleaned between learning groups.
D70 returns to full-day schedule, five-days per week at all five schools on April 12, officials said.
