Organized by the Oak Park Department of Public Health, the Feb. 27 clinic provided first-dose COVID-19 vaccines for private school teachers and a small number of educators from licensed day care centers.

“The clinic size was based on information provided by the schools,” village spokesman David Powers said. “After a site visit [to the schools], the public health director decided Rush Oak Park Hospital offered a better venue.”

According to Fenwick officials, about 140 “status 1b educators,” including teachers, coaches, staff and administrators received their shots during the clinic.

“We had a great turnout with approximately 265 Oak Park private school educators and staff,” Fenwick school nurse Kathleen Monty said. “The village of Oak Park and the board of health were pleased with the turnout.”

A second clinic is expected to take place later this month for the recipients to receive their second doses.

“It was truly inspiring to see them in action,” Fenwick president Fr. Richard Peddicord said of the school nursing staff. “The Fenwick community owes them so much.”
