RIP Hank Aaron: A sad, sad day in baseball. We lost the greatest player that ever played the game. The Hammer, Hank Aaron. He will be missed. May he rest in peace. Go Hammer, go Hammer, go Hammer.

End executive perks: I had to laugh at that caller who pointed out all the useless employees in local government and how they never get laid off. Government is too incompetent to privatize their operations, but they could at least eliminate the obvious waste. They could eliminate all those perks now being given to managers. Why are educational bonuses being given? Why are there still so many municipal cars parked at homes when they are only used to drive to and from work?

National Guard badly treated: Where were the Democrats when our fantastic National Guard guys were put in a parking garage and slept on a cold cement floor (before President Biden’s inauguration)? They took over, and they put our men and women in a garage. And don’t say it’s not their fault. They just got control. Where are the Democrats taking our nation?

Police vs. crime: I just saw a newscast report saying there’ve been 144 carjackings in the Chicago area in the first 21 days of the year. Carjackings are also up in most larger urban areas. Yet, the Democratic Party, both nationally and in the state of Illinois, seems to believe the major problem we are facing is the behavior of the police. They seem to be doing whatever they can to cut the power of the police and enable criminals to be released almost as soon as they are arrested. What am I missing here?

Tried to warn you: I read your article about carbon-free electricity that faces some roadblocks. I want to tell you when Batavia, Rochelle and other towns were looking at buying into that coal fire plant, I stood up against it. It wasn’t because of climate change. It was because I grew up in a coal-mining town. The fact is many of the plants were shut down because of the pollution they were putting out. There were so many regulations about how you had to clean the byproducts of the coal that it made it unprofitable. Did we get cheaper electricity? Hell no. ComEd gives us better rates than Prairie State. They signed these contracts without thinking about the consequences. Now we’re going to pay for it.
