Three incumbents and five newcomers will vie for four seats on the Arlington Heights School District 25 board of education in the April 6 consolidated election.

Dec. 21 was the deadline for would-be candidates to file their nominating papers.

The district’s approach to dealing with the COVID-19 response may become the central issue during this election season. There has been a divide for months on whether students should be doing all-remote learning, continuing a hybrid approach or returning to full in-person instruction.

Incumbent Rich Olejniczak will be seeking his third term and Anisha Patel is seeking her second term. Gina Faso, who is seeking her first full term. Faso was tapped this fall to fill the vacancy created when David Page resigned.

Current board Secretary Erin Johannesen is not seeking re-election. She had been appointed in the summer of 2014 to fill a vacancy, was elected in 2015 to fill the remainder of that term and then was re-elected in 2017.

Other people vying for seats are Gregory Scapillato, Katie Rausch, Todd Witherow, Deborah Tranter and Melissa Andrews, according to information from the Cook County Clerk’s office.
