It didn’t’ take long for a GoFundMe campaign for Hinsdale resident Kim Pickering, the mother of 15-year-old Kendall Pickering, who was killed Dec. 15 in a North Carolina car crash, to reach its $25,000 goal.
In fact, the fundraising effort created by Dina King of Glenview, a longtime friend and co-worker of Kim Pickering, was halted three days after it started Friday, after raising $51,456 from 770 donors.
“I kept raising the goal and now am asking people who want to contribute to make donations to the Kendall Pickering Legacy Fund,” King said Monday. “The response really was amazing and says that people wanted to help the Pickering family.”
King said donations from the GoFundMe campaign will be given to Kim Pickering to use as needed. Additional donations to the Kendall Pickering Legacy Fund can be sent to Timothy Theriault, 3624 Salt Creek Circle, Oak Brook, IL 60523 or via Venmo @kendallpickeringLF.
Kendall, a top swimmer at Hinsdale Central, and her father, Robert, both were killed when the vehicle in which they were traveling went off an interstate highway in North Carolina and crashed into a tree.
A walk through visitation for Kendall will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Adolf Funeral Home, 7000 S. Madison St., Willowbrook.
Due to COVID -19 restrictions, masks are required, and a limited number of people will be allowed in the funeral home at a time. Family and friends will meet for a funeral service with limited seating at 11 a.m. Dec. 28 at Christ Church of Oak Brook, 501 Oak Brook Road, Oak Brook.
