Hinsdale’s village manager got a retro-active 2.25 percent raise, her first since 2017.

The Village Board unanimously approved the increase Monday for Kathleen Gargano, which raises her annual salary to $205,306.

“I’m sure you’ll all agree Kathleen has done an outstanding job as village manager,” Village President Thomas Cauley, Jr., said.

The village trustees said Gargano’s increase was well-earned.

The heads of the village departments and other employees received a 2.25 percent raise on May 1, Cauley said, so Gargano’s increase is retroactive to that date, May 1, 2020.

Cauley explained Gargano did not get a raise then because she did not remind him when she was due a raise as she does for the other employees.

“She always reminds me about the other staff and their pay increases, but the conversation we had omitted her,” Cauley said. Gargano is not the type of person who promotes herself, he said. “I’m completely responsible for the delinquency in giving her annual raises.”

Cauley and the other Village Board members said they would not forget her raises in the future.

Gargano became Hinsdale’s first woman village manager when the village hired in August 2013 with an annual salary of $175,000.

She had worked for the village of Wilmette for 16 years and was the assistant village manager in Wilmette when she applied for the job in Hinsdale.
