The Book Stall in Winnetka will be temporarily closed this week due to COVID-19 safety precautions.

The shuttering of the venerable storefront at 811 Elm St., which is expected to last through Friday, was announced Monday in a statement posted on the independent bookseller’s website.

“We are sad to report that one of our staff members has tested positive for COVID-19,” store officials said. “This staff member is not a front-line bookseller, and as we have been closed to browsing traffic for over seven days, we believe exposure to the public to be an absolute minimum.”

“We will use the time away to allow our other staff members to get tested and to sanitize our workstations,” officials said, adding that a reopening of the store’s “front-door operations will be announced soon.”

During the closure, patrons can continue to place orders on the store’s website at thebookstall.com.

“We appreciate your business and your patience and promise to work on getting your books to you as soon as possible,” officials said.

As phone service at the store will be limited until further notice, officials suggest reaching out via email or web order only.
