Justice of the Pies bakery owner Maya-Camille Broussard goes global in a new documentary film series set to air next spring.
“FIVE” follows five female entrepreneurs in five countries across the world, “who have each set out to start a purpose-driven business to improve and uplift their communities” according to a release. Each film was also directed by a woman. Broussard, based at food and beverage incubator The Hatchery in the East Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago, is the only American business owner featured in the series.

The project premiered at the San Diego International Film Festival last month. Mastercard commissioned the series, which will air in March 2021 on ShortsTV. The release date is tied to International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8.
The films also feature publishing house Harfa in Split, Croatia; organic agriculture company ONganic Foods in Kolkata, India; fashion brand Sarah’s Bag in Beirut, Lebanon; and employment agency Talento Incluir in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Broussard founded her bakery business in 2014. The name honors her late father, Stephen Broussard, a criminal defense attorney, pie lover and champion of second chances. The Black-owned business makes sweet and savory pies, as well as quiches and tarts. Do note there is not currently a retail shop. A Riverwalk stand was closed due to COVID restrictions this year.
