DuPage offering free flu shots Wednesday and Friday

The DuPage County Health Department is holding a free drive-thru flu vaccination clinic for residents ages 18 to 65 on Wednesday, Nov. 18, and Friday, Nov. 20, at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton.

Vaccines will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 1 to 4 p.m. or until supplies run out, a news release said. The fairgrounds main entrance is at 2015 Manchester Road.

People receiving shots are asked to wear a mask and short-sleeved shirt or sleeves that roll up for easy access to the upper arm, the release said. Shots will be administered to people as they remain seated inside their cars.

“We are urging residents to get their flu shots to help avoid potential coinfection with COVID-19 and flu, which may help prevent more severe illness and hospitalizations,” Karen Ayala, executive director of the DuPage County Health Department, said in the release. “This is especially important as our local COVID-19 cases continue to rise exponentially.”

Work starts on Route 59/Champion Road intersection

Intermittent daytime lane closures will be needed for intersection improvements being made at Route 59 and Champion Road in Naperville and Plainfield, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The work includes installing modernized traffic signals, constructing new sidewalk and ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps and making drainage improvements, a news release said. Access to businesses in the work zone will be maintained during the project, which is expected to be completed in November 2021.

Motorists can expect delays, should allow extra time for trips and need to pay attention to flaggers, signs and equipment in the work zones, the release said.

State Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, D-Shorewood, said she secured more than $900,000 to fund the work after residents, including those in Naperville’s South Pointe subdivision, circulated petitions and sought assistance.

The signal will help drivers crossing lanes and making a left turn onto northbound Route 59 from their subdivisions during rush hour, Bertino-Tarrant said in a news release.

COVID prompts DuPage traffic court case delay

DuPage County traffic court cases scheduled for between Nov. 23 and Dec. 31 will be pushed back to 2021 because of the significant increase in local COVID-19 cases, under an administrative order issued by DuPage County Chief Judge Daniel P. Guerin.

Future court dates will be delayed at least 28 days, a news release said. New dates can be found at epay.l8thjudicial.org, and the circuit clerk will be sending notices via mail.

The public can also find more information on the court closure at www.dupageco.org/court and specific case information at www.18thjudicial.org.

“In order to protect the health and safety of court employees and the general public, we decided that continuing traffic matters through the end of this year was the responsible and prudent step to take in response to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases,” Guerin said in the release.
