A 70-year-old woman was shot and critically wounded while inside a home in the North Austin neighborhood Wednesday night.

Paramedics were called to the 1700 block of North Monitor Avenue about 6:20 p.m. and found the woman had been shot once by a bullet that came through a front window, said Chicago Fire Department Deputy District Chief Walter Schroeder and police.

She was shot in the chest and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition, Schroeder said.

Chicago police said no arrests have been made.
