The DuPage County Clerk’s Office says 72% of the county’s 656,354 registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s election, setting a new record for most votes in an election.
As of Wednesday night, there had been 472,784 votes tabulated — 118,418 cast on Election Day, 189,744 cast at early voting locations and 164,622 sent in by mail, a clerk’s office news release said.
There are 23,052 ballots mailed to voters ahead of the election that have not yet been returned. If they are received and postmarked on or before Nov. 3, they will be added into the vote totals, the release said.
Another 2,547 provisional ballots also need to be verified and counted.
In Will County, voter turnout was 71.69% — 332,247 ballots cast in a county with 463,465 registered voters.
That was less than in the 2016 presidential election, when Will saw a nearly 75% voter turnout, with 63,236 ballots cast at early voting location and 22,566 mail-in ballots.
