Pro athletes not exempt: I just got finished watching the baseball playoffs. All these rich professional players who are supposed to be role models for not just children but adults are standing around elbow to elbow and shoulder to shoulder without a mask on in the dugout. That is really a way to show us that our athletes really care what’s going on and prove they are not a role model to anyone.
Trim your budgets first: All this crying by local police and fire departments for more money from the federal government cracks me up. Sure, they have huge personnel expenditures that were really stretched through the pandemic, but these places have way too many layers off management. Now would be a great time to pare down the unnecessary fat. But don’t bet on that happening. For every chief, there’s a deputy chief, five assistance chiefs, big support departments as well as a bunch of unnecessary lieutenants. Flatten out your staffing and quit looking to the feds to keep pampering your employees.
Elgin’s scary fun: I drove to see what they were doing at Wing Park in Elgin for the Halloween drive-thru event. Lots of work has been done for people to enjoy this time of year to get scared.
Cook building idea: I have a great idea. The city and the NorthEast Neighborhood Association should contact Otto Engineering in Carpentersville about buying and restoring the David C. Cook building. Otto Engineering does fantastic restoration work. That guy would be great to come here and save that property.
Hollow explanation: I was listening to Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, who had an interview with Michael Strahan about Breonna Taylor being killed in Kentucky. He said it wasn’t racial profiling, it was criminal profiling. (When) he was asked what’s the difference, his response was when you go in certain neighborhoods and people won’t make eye contact with you and they break off a different way, it makes them a criminal. Wow. There are lots of us black people who don’t like making eye contact with the police.
Sad response: In Congress, when you are chastised by members of your own party for being human and caring, what is the Democratic party coming to? Sen. Dianne Feinstein was chastised by Chuck Schumer and others by hugging sent Lindsey Graham for a great hearing on Justice Amy Barrett. It shows just how hateful the Democrats are.
