The Clarendon Hills Public Library, 7 N. Prospect Ave., will be closed to the public through Oct. 31 after it was learned there was staff exposure to COVID-19 outside of the village.

The closing takes effect today, and contactless pickup of library materials is available.

The following steps have been taken as a safety precaution, according to the library’s website:

* Placing the affected employee on a leave of absence while the employee follows the quarantine recommendations of the CDC and their doctor.

* Reaching out directly to those who library staff believe were in close contact with the affected employee and asking those individuals to self-quarantine, as recommended by the CDC and their doctor.

* Implementing deep cleanings and disinfections of the building.

Library materials may be requested to be held through the SWAN Online Catalog or by calling the library, 630-323-8188. All materials checked out during this time will have a 3-week loan period.

Once items are available for pickup, notification will be made via email or phone call, and items will be available for contactless pickup from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

Persons picking up items on hold should call the library (630-323-8188) when they arrive, and items will be bagged and brought out to a table near the front door.
