A 33-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition Thursday after a sport utility vehicle struck her in the South Shore neighborhood as she crossed the street.
A 31-year-old woman was driving a Buick SUV south in the 7500 block of South Exchange Avenue about 10:15 p.m. when she hit the pedestrian and crashed into a pole, according to a police media notification.
The pedestrian and driver were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, the notification said. The driver was in fair condition and a 10-year-old girl also in the Buick was not injured.
The driver was issued two citations for failing to reduce speed and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, according to a police spokeswoman.
