Registration underway for ‘Halloween Nights Lights’

The Naperville Park District is introducing a new event, “Halloween Nights Lights,” to celebrate the season while staying in compliance with COVID-19 pandemic health guidelines.

The free event on Oct. 29 and 30 will be a short drive-through tour of scenes and lights at Centennial Beach, which will be “transformed into a world filled with Halloween wonders,” a park district news release said. The beach is located at 500 W. Jackson Ave.

Advance registration at www.napervilleparks.org/HalloweenNightsLights is required and the event is limited to only Naperville residents, the release said. Participants will choose a 30-minute time slot for one vehicle.

“Themed car games and activities will distributed to each vehicle upon arrival to help pass the time during the wait to view the lights and scenes,” the release said. “Additionally, goody bags will be distributed to children ages 10 and under who are present in each vehicle.”

Walk-up visits to view the lights and scenery will not be permitted.

The park district’s traditional holiday event, Halloween Happening, has been canceled this year.

This year's Naperville Noon Lions Turkey Trot 5K will switch to a virtual format in order to ensure safety during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lions Club Turkey Trot to be held virtually this year

The Naperville Noon Lions Turkey Trot 5K, a 23-year Thanksgiving tradition that typically attracts as many at 6,000 people, will become a virtual event this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers said.

Participants are invited to keep the holiday activity alive by choosing a route and time to run on their own sometime between Nov. 14 and 29, a news release said.

Those who do will receive a race shirt and 2020 race decal. The cost is $25 for ages 9 and under, $30 for ages 10 to 14 and $35 for ages 15 and up.

Results and photos submitted by runners will be posted on the Naperville Noon Lions Club Facebook page and on Instagram, the release said.
