July 24: Opening act
The Sox drop the season opener 10-5 to the Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field — but top prospect Luis Robert has two hits in his big-league debut, including a single on the first pitch he sees.
July 29: Starting a streak
After starting the season 1-4, the Sox score four runs in the ninth to beat the Indians 4-0 at Progressive Field in Cleveland. The victory starts a six-game winning streak.
Aug. 1: The hit parade
Robert and Eloy Jimenez each come within a triple of the cycle in an 11-5 win against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The Sox have 21 hits in all.
Aug. 2: Nick Madrigal breaks through
Second base prospect Nick Madrigal collects the first four hits of his career in a 9-2 win against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Madrigal also scores twice and has an RBI.
Aug. 10: The team meeting
After a 5-1 loss to the Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Dallas Keuchel holds a team meeting and later tells reporters he thought the team came out flat and that the Sox had to “clean a lot of things up.” The team responds by winning 14 of its next 18 games.
Aug. 12: Instant offense
Tim Anderson comes within a double of the cycle in a 7-5 win against the Tigers at Comerica Park. Anderson and Jimenez begin the game with back-to-back homers. Anderson goes 4-for-5 with three runs.
Aug. 16: Back-to-back-to-back-to-back
The Sox tie a major-league record with four consecutive home runs in the fifth inning of a 7-2 win against the Cardinals at Guaranteed Rate Field. Yoan Moncada, Yasmani Grandal, Jose Abreu and Jimenez go deep.
Aug. 19: An impressive debut
Dane Dunning strikes out seven in his big-league debut against the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field. He allows three runs on five hits in 4? innings but does not factor in the decision in the 5-3 Sox win.
Aug. 21: The six-pack
The Sox hit six home runs — two by Abreu — in a 10-1 win against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Robert, Danny Mendick, Grandal and Jimenez also homer.
Aug. 22: Abreu stays locked in
Abreu hits three home runs in a 7-4 win against the Cubs

Lucas Giolito throws the 19th no-hitter in franchise history in a 4-0 win against the Pirates at Guaranteed Rate Field. Giolito walks one and matches a career high with 13 strikeouts.
Aug. 28: The game-ender, Part I
Grandal hits a game-ending solo home run in the ninth for a 6-5 victory against the Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Aug. 30: The game-ender, Part II
Robert hits a game-ending three-run homer in the 10th to give the Sox a 5-2 win against the Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Aug. 31: Ninth-inning heroics
Robert drives in the go-ahead run in the ninth as the Sox rally to beat the Twins 8-5 at Target Field in Minneapolis. Robert tied the game in the seventh with a solo home run.
Sept. 3: The long ball
Robert hits a 458-foot three-run home run in an 11-6 win against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. He follows that up with a tremendous diving catch in the ninth inning of a 5-3 win on Sept. 5.
Sept. 12: 3×2
One day after his 22-game hitting streak ended, Abreu hits two three-run homers and drives in seven in a 14-0 victory against the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Sept. 17: Back to the playoffs
The Sox score twice in the seventh and rally to beat the Twins 4-3 at Guaranteed Rate Field, clinching the team’s first playoff berth since 2008. Abreu drives in the tying run while reaching on an infield hit. Jimenez knocks in the go-ahead run with a double to left.
Sept. 18: Quite the introduction
Garrett Crochet, the team’s first-round pick in this year’s draft, strikes out two in the sixth inning in his big-league debut, a 7-1 loss to the Reds at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Six of his pitches in his one inning were either 100 or 101 mph.
Sept. 19: High 5
Anderson hits two of the team’s five homers in a 5-0 win against the Reds at Great American Ball Park. Nomar Mazara and Anderson homer in the fifth. Anderson, Grandal and Abreu hit back-to-back homers in the eighth.
Sept. 22-23: Crushing defeats
Jose Ramirez hits a game-ending three-run home run in the 10th as the Indians beat the Sox 5-3 on Sept. 22 at Progressive Field. The Sox fall out of first place in the American League Central the next night as Jordan Luplow hits a walk-off homer in the ninth to give the Indians a 3-2 victory. The Sox end up losing eight of their last 10 games to fall to third in the division and the No. 7 seed in the playoffs.
