Six months have passed since the hectic weeks when most of life as it was before COVID-19 shut down. Spring gave way to summer and work, school, sports and entertainment all radically transformed as the pandemic became the driving force behind nearly everything. Of course, before Gov. J.B. Pritzker shut down the state, instituted a reopening plan and shut some things down again; before case counts, positivity rates, N-95s, nasal swabs and other new words entered the public vocabulary, coronavirus was already spreading around the globe with a devastating impact.
The virus exacted a frightening toll with more than 29 million cases 900,000 deaths worldwide as of Sept. 14, according to data tracked by Johns Hopkins. In Illinois, 8,314 have lost their lives and 262,744 have been confirmed with the virus.
Starting at a live fish market in Wuhan, China, outbreaks hit across Europe, the Mideast and the U.S. Countries shut down, opened up and shut down again.
Here are key points in the outbreak of COVID-19 in Illinois, the U.S. and the world, in politics, education, business and sports.
