A 5-year-old boy was shot in the thigh while inside a residence in the Lawndale neighborhood Tuesday evening, according to Chicago police.

The shooting occurred in the 1800 block of South Homan Avenue about 5:30 p.m. The boy was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, said Officer Anthony Spicuzza, a police spokesman.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, he added. No one is in custody.
