Eminem awoke from his sleep in early April and faced a man standing nearby who said he was at the rapper’s home to kill him, a Michigan police officer testified in court on Wednesday.

Video footage showed an intruder throwing an object through a glass window on his way into Eminem’s house, said Officer Adam Hackstock of the Clinton Township Police Department.

Matthew David Hughes was arrested and charged with first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of property in the April 5 break-in, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, lives in Clinton Township, in the northeastern suburbs of Detroit. The 47-year-old rapper has 24-hour security on the property, according to WDIV-TV.

Hackstock said Hughes did not have a weapon.

“When Mr. Mathers asked him why he was there, he was told by Mr. Hughes that he was there to kill him,” Hackstock said in court.
