The body of a 32-year-old Evanston man who apparently fell off a boat into Monroe Harbor four days ago was pulled from the lake Thursday morning, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 6 a.m., police Marine Unit officers recovered his remains near Monroe Harbor, not far from where he’d gone missing, said Officer Anthony Spicuzza, a police spokesman.

The man, whose identity was not being made public yet, fell from a boat about 6:40 p.m. Sunday and failed to resurface.

Immediately after he went missing, a dive team search by the Chicago Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and police was deployed to find him.

“It’s very sad, it’s very unfortunate,” said Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew, who confirmed a vigil for the man was still planned for 6 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Dodge Avenue and Church Street. “He’s from a good family in town, good members of the community.”

Fire officials had provided updates Sunday on the search on social media. In a post about 40 minutes after divers from the Fire Department launched the search, a department representative said Fire Department “divers are out of the water,” and added they would continue to search from a boat using “search cameras.”

Then, about 8 p.m. Sunday, the department suggested it was unlikely the man would be located alive.

“After (an) extensive search the event has been transitioned to a recovery,” it said.
