About 30 La Grange businesses are expected to participate Friday-Saturday in a sidewalk sale organized by the La Grange Business Association.
Participating stores throughout the village will bring their merchandise out onto the sidewalks and offer discounted pricing both indoors and outside, said Nancy Cummings executive director of the business association.
“This is a great opportunity for people to become more familiar with shops they haven’t been to in a while,” Cummings said. “There will be lots of great deals, a great opportunity for shoppers to find some nice items at great prices.”
Heidi Morrow, owner of Whisper Me Home at 48 S. La Grange Road, celebrates her third anniversary in business Sept. 1 and was looking forward Monday to the sidewalk sale.
“We enjoy engaging with the community,” she said. “It’s a great way to get people excited to come out and for us to showcase some of our vintage furniture in our pop-up.”
Morrow said being able to shop outdoors likely will be of comfort to those who are uncomfortable being inside because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I think being outside will make some people feel safer,” she said.
Cummings said the wearing of masks is required indoors.
“We also recommend that people keep their masks on outdoors and when they are walking,” she said.
Cummings said this is about the eighth consecutive year in which the business association has had an August sidewalk sale. Some locations will display sale items in-store only, and some will display limited items in front of their businesses, she said.
“Store owners are being creative is their offerings,” Cummings said, noting as examples the Whisper Me Home pop-up shop, unique artisans displaying their wares outside of Luxxe/Honor, 311 W. Hillgrove Ave. and La Grange Upholstery giving customers free face mask with every quote.
“An end-of-season sales promotion like this helps our small businesses make up some critical lost revenue,” Cummings said. “And it’s a great way for shoppers to explore all that La Grange has to offer. With some of our restaurants offering sidewalk food and beverage specials, it’s a perfect way to spend a summer day.”
