Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

A member of the Chicago Fire has been confirmed positive for COVID-19, the team announced late Friday night.

The Fire said the player, whom they have not named because of privacy concerns, is asymptomatic and has self-isolated per team and Major League Soccer protocols.

The player was not in the traveling party that lost 3-0 to the Columbus Crew on Thursday night, the Fire said.

MLS protocols call for players to undergo Polymerase Chain Reaction tests every other day, including the day before matches. A positive PCR test requires a follow-up, and a second positive gets the designation of a confirmed positive. After a player is confirmed positive, teams — including players and all technical staff — must undergo daily testing.

The Fire previously did not have any cases.

As of Friday night’s announcement, the Fire still are on schedule to make their awaited return to Soldier Field on Tuesday against FC Cincinnati.
