Olivia Wilde has something major in store for female representation within the Marvel Comics film franchise.

The award-winning actress has signed a deal with Sony Pictures to helm a female-focused Marvel film for Sony, which has had major success with its multi-billion dollar-grossing “Spider Man’ franchise.

While representatives for Sony and Marvel had no comment about the project to Variety, the outlet reported that sources said the “House” star will develop and direct an untitled project that may be centering on the Spider-Woman character.

Wilde will reportedly re-team with writer Katie Silberman, who wrote 2019’s acclaimed “Booksmart,” which was her directorial debut.

The female arachnid character dates back to the 1970s with an origin story involving uranium exposure and spider blood. A version of the character most recently appeared in the Academy Award-winning 2018 animated feature “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”

Variety previously reported that veteran TV director S.J. Clarkson had signed on to develop the first female-centric movie from Sony’s catalog of Marvel characters, citing sources hinting that the film would be based on the Madame Web comic book character.
