Joe Biden was in the Zoom where it happened!
“Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda joined other Latino luminaries including Eva Longoria, Chef Jose Andreas, Zoe Saldana, America Ferrara and Jennifer Lopez to stress the gravity of voting in the 2020 election – and represent the power in their community’s vote.
In conjunction with Luis A. Miranda Jr.’s Latino Victory Project and NowThis News, the Broadway powerhouse kicked off a livestreamed community conversation with Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on Tuesday.
“The future success of our country depends on Latinos having the opportunities and the tools they need. Latinos are among,” Biden said. “How in God’s name can we have a strong, thriving Republic if we don’t fully deal in Latinos in every aspect of American life?”
The former vice president told Miranda that the path to victory relied on the Latino community and said that President Trump had “failed” their community.
“The path to victory in November is going to rely on Latino voters — that’s not hyperbole,” Biden continued. “We need every single voter to sign up and get engaged in our campaign.”
The Emmy, Grammy, Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright talked about inclusion in the context of history.
“Our founders referred to making ‘a more perfect union’ — I interpret that as understanding that it was not perfect when it was founded, and we would always be striving to make it better,” Miranda said.
Other celebrities joining the forum, such as “Desperate Housewives” actress Eva Longoria, agreed that voters need to elect representatives that better reflect the country’s demographic.

The co-founder of Latino Victory Project, Longoria said Latinos are “severely underrepresented in government” because of how cost-prohibitive it is to run for political office.
“It is financially impossible to do it alone,” the L’Oreal pitchwoman remarked before turning her focus upon Latino voters and asserting: “We have a lot of power and we have to recognize we have that power” to make a difference in elections.

Meanwhile, Lopez stressed during her speech that Latinos are the largest minority voter block.
“Latinos can really make the difference as to who wins this presidential election,” the singer and actress urged. “We don’t have time to waste in this election. There’s so much going on. There’s so much at stake.”
“We need leaders in our country to reflect the diversity of our country to represent us,” she furthered. “Make sure you are registered to vote and have a plan to vote.”
