Completed Friday, the latest mural by Detroit street artist Sheefy McFly calls for the release of people still imprisoned for marijuana convictions prior to Michigan legalization.

The Detroit street artist was commissioned for the painting by Skymint, a Michigan cannabis company that opened its Hazel Park dispensary last week. Located on John R just north of 8 Mile, it is now the recreational cannabis facility geographically nearest the city of Detroit.

McFly’s new work, melding pop art and cubism, features two sets of knuckles bearing the words “LOVE” and “PEACE,” a twist on the character Radio Raheem in Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing.”

Skymint is a partner of the Last Prisoner Project, a nonprofit cannabis justice organization.

“I love weed a lot. I love to paint a lot,” said McFly, who has more than 20 murals to his name in the Detroit area. “So this is a match made in heaven.”
