A Buena Park neighborhood man didn’t waste any time after bonding out of jail when he allegedly jumped behind the wheel of a DuPage County-owned truck and drove away with it early Friday, officials said.

A judge on Friday set bail at $75,000 for Christopher Britter, charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and theft, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Christopher Britter, 30, of the 4300 block of North Sheridan Road in Chicago, was charged with one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and one count of theft after being released on a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, DuPage County officials said.

On Thursday while still at the jail complex, Britter allegedly sneaked into a DuPage County-owned truck that was unlocked, still running and parked on county property and drove away with it early Friday morning, officials said.

Several hours later, Darien police spotted Britter snoozing behind the wheel of the truck, which was parked on the side of Lemont Road just south of I-35. He was taken into custody without incident about 5 a.m.

Before he took a nap, Britter had been released from the DuPage County Jail after posting $100, or 10% of a $1,000 bond, after being charged with an unrelated misdemeanor disorderly conduct, officials said.

Britter, of the 4300 block of North Sheridan Road in Chicago, was to appear in court again Sept. 8.
