Naperville District 203 is making multiple administrative changes in preparation for the start of school in August.

Stephanie Posey, principal of Naperville North High School, will serve as interim assistant superintendent of secondary education in Naperville in the coming year.

She is filling the vacancy created when Nancy Voise stepped down from the assistant superintendent position to rejoin the principal ranks as the head of Madison Junior High School effective July 1.

Voise replaced Erin Anderson, who had been principal of the Naperville middle school for the last 18 years. Anderson, who has been with District 203 for more than three decades, was reassigned to a role in the district offices in April.

Jay Wachtel will serve as interim principal of Naperville North High School in the 2020-21 school year.

Posey will begin her new role in the district office effective immediately and Jay Wachtel has taken over as interim principal of Naperville North. The changes for Posey and Wachtel are pending formal school board approval Aug. 3.

“During these uncertain times, we need a strong educator like Stephanie Posey to lead our secondary level,” Superintendent Dan Bridges said in a news release. “Her leadership and expertise will be greatly valued by our seven secondary buildings.”

Posey has worked in education for 28 years, with 15 spent as an administrator.

She became as principal of Naperville North in 2015 and prior to that was principal of Belleville East High School.

Under her stewardship, Naperville North was awarded the National Blue Ribbon honor in 2018.

She received the Illinois Principal Association Southwest Region’s Secondary Principal of the Year in 2013 and was recognized as one of the Racial Harmony Phenomenal Women of Metro East 2013.

Posey is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Illinois Principal Association, National Association of Secondary School Principals, and the Illinois High School Association Basketball Advisory Committee, among other professional associations.

Posey earned a doctorate in education administration from Lindenwood University and completed a master’s degree in educational administration and a bachelor’s degree special education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

In the release, Posey said it was honor to step in to support the district as interim assistant superintendent of secondary education.

“It has always been important to me to create a sense of community for students, staff and families at the school level and I will use this philosophy in my capacity,” Posey said.

Wachtel began his career as a business teacher in high schools in Colorado and Illinois.

He joined the Naperville North staff in 2002 and has held several positions, including business teacher, instructional coordinator for career and technical education, and assistant principal of operations.

He’s earned several notable awards, including the Outstanding Integrated Curriculum Award (Education to Careers), Outstanding Partnership Award (DuPage Area Occupational Education System), and the CTE Advocate of the Year (Partnership for College and Career Success).

“Having spent 18 years at North, I am deeply committed to supporting the students, families and staff during this transitional time in our school community,” Wachtel said in the release.

Wachtel holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and with a minor in business administration from Illinois State University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree in global studies in education from University of Illinois.
