A 47-year-old Zion woman faces charges for fatally hitting a bicyclist with the SUV she was driving and then fleeing the scene, Waukegan police said.
Authorities say Linda J. Ray, who turned herself in Wednesday morning at the Waukegan Police Department, was driving a 2015 black Cadillac SUV June 4 in the 3600 block of North Lewis Avenue when she hit the bicyclist.
The SUV was not registered to Ray, according to a news release.
The bicyclist – identified as Chad Aiello, 37, of Kenosha – was southbound in the northbound lanes of Lewis when he was hit by the SUV, according to the release. Officers, who were dispatched to the scene around 11:30 p.m., found him in the roadway badly injured.
Aiello was taken to an area hospital where he subsequently died, according to the release.
Ray was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, according to the release. Her bail was set at $100,000. She remained in the Lake County jail Thursday morning.
