He’s one of New York’s most eligible bachelors, but Gov. Cuomo is still practicing social distancing when it comes to romance.
The governor told “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon on Monday night’s show that he’s in no rush to reopen his love life.
“I’m at Phase Zero on dating,” Cuomo confessed to Fallon, who was hosting his first show at his studio at 30 Rockefeller Center since New York coronavirus lockdowns began in March.
“There’s no duration on Phase Zero,” Cuomo lamented, making reference to his successful phased reopening of the state amid the pandemic. “There is no automatic time you go to Phase One. You could stay at Phase Zero for months. I think New York City will be fully reopened before I get out of Phase Zero on dating.”
New York City entered Phase One of the four-point reopening process on June 8, while other parts of the state that were doing better amid coronavirus were able to start opening earlier. The governor had shutdown non-essential businesses since March 20.
Professional matchmaker Maureen Tara Nelson told the Daily News in April that the governor and his younger brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, tied for first place among the state’s most handsome men in a contest she holds for her clients every year.
The loveless gov, who was in a 14-year relationship that ended last fall, was quick to make known he’s the only Cuomo sibling who’s single.
“My brother is married, I am not married,” the 62-year-old politico told 1010 WINS. “So I don’t think he would qualify as eligible.”
Fallon became the first late night host to return to the studio with Monday’s show, which had no live audience. He thanked the governor for his leadership during the coronavirus pandemic, but could only laugh as Cuomo lamented his ongoing availability as a bachelor.
