Centennial Beach may not be open because of the coronavirus pandemic but Naperville Park District is offering two alternatives for kids to cool off this summer.
The 95th Street Community Plaza’s splash pad opened Thursday as part of a larger complex that includes a storybook-themed playground, restrooms, pavilion and lawn, shaded seating areas, pathways and landscaping, a district news release said.
The new plaza is located just south of the 95th Street Library on Cedar Glade Drive.
Splash pad hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Labor Day, and is limited to a maximum of 50 people, the release said. Social distancing guidelines are posted at the site.
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the 95th Street Community Plaza is scheduled for 4 p.m. July 16.
“The plaza is even more beautiful than we imagined it would be,” park district Executive Director Ray McGury said in the release. “We can’t wait for people to see it and we know that it will become a favorite destination for the community for many years to come.”

The district has also set up a Midday Spray at Rotary Hill, overlooking the Riverwalk and Millennium Carillon.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, a sprinkler has been set up for kids to run through and cool off, a news release said. It opened Thursday and will continue through the end of July.
COVID-19 guidelines, including social distancing, will be in place, the release said. There’s no charge to use the sprinkler.
“We hope families will enjoy bringing a picnic lunch to Rotary Hill, where kids can run through the water and cool off on these hot summer days,” McGury said.
